Mt. Liberty Training Hike

Today I headed up to the notch to try and rip up Mt. Liberty. Trip total was right around 8.5 miles and I tagged the summit in under 2 hours. The trail was tightly packed and I was able to run most of the way back to the parking lot. The legs are feeling strong and I was able to run well with a full pack on.

Today brought up a big question for the Miwok.... Do I use trekking poles for the 12,000 feet of elevation gain at this race? Trekking poles are popping up more and more at ultra runs heavy on aggressive climbs. The poles are something I am going to have to experiment with over the next few weeks.

North/South Kinsman

On 02/29/12 I used this hike for training covering 10.2 miles. This will be the first of many hiking/running trips to the whites over the next 2 months. I'll be using trails with plenty of grade in order to prepare for the 12k feet of elevation gain that Miwok 100k is going to dish out.
